There is nothing I can say about Sascha that hasn’t already been said in previous comments here, but here’s my story. I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2000 and had all my treatment with the previous consultants in the breast cancer clinic when it was in the centre of Chelmsford. I had chemo, a mastectomy and radiotherapy followed by regular check-ups. In July 2011 I was discharged from their care having done my 5 years on Tamoxifen and then another 5 years, what a joyful day that was. Unfortunately in January 2012 I felt a lump in my chest wall above the mastectomy scar so was referred by my GP to the new clinic at Broomfield Hospital, what an amazing change to the whole experience. I was given an appointment to see Sascha within a week and she has been such a supportive and kind person. She confirmed the lump was cancerous and arranged for me to have surgery within a few weeks following more tests, fortunately it hadn’t spread so I’m now on Letrozole for 5 years. My clinic visits are now 6 monthly and as has been said before not so daunting as they could be. Sascha helps make everyone feel important and always asks after my family, she is a real gem. I’d like to say a personal ‘Thank you’ to her just for being there, sounds corny I know.

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago, in her late-70s and a decade after suffering a life-changing stroke. Sascha understood immediately the concerns my mother had about the after-effects of any possible surgery - it could have led to an even greater inability to care for herself - and was happy to discuss alternatives. One year on and my mother is better than ever, both mentally and physically. She is doing exceptionally well on the medication prescribed from her, enjoys her six-month check-ups where she learns that her breast 'lumps' are remaining under control, and relishes, I believe, the time she spends in the company of this personable, lively, professional and - most importantly - respectful health professional. My mother and I have absolute confidence in the recommendations Sascha makes and are extremely grateful for the opportunities she has given us to ask questions, seek explanations and play a full part in choosing the most suitable course of treatment for this cancer diagnosis. It seems odd to describe a cancer check-up appointment as enjoyable, but thanks to Sascha we leave every meeting feeling up-beat and positive about the months ahead. I can't recommend this lovely lady highly enough.

Sascha was very kind, she listened to me and explained things clearly and thoroughly. I had complete confidence in her and she demostrated in-depth subject knowledge with up-to-date and informed opinions on the latest techniques and breakthroughs in Breast Cancer treatments. My surgery scar is very neat and I experienced very little pain and no infection. The ward staff also obviously thought Sascha was great to and had a very high opinion of her. Post-op care was very good with everything done to accommodate my personal situation. Being diagnosed with breast cancer - especially after fighting bowel cancer 11 years earlier, was a really frightening experience and Sascha was a huge reassuring presence who helped to keep me calm and optimistic.

Sasha is a true blessing to me and my family. Not only does she fill me with confidence but her effervescent personality makes coming for an appointment less of a chore and is actually something to look forward to. Also the team that work with Sascha has a real feel good factor but I guess this is to be expected when working with such a professional who is friendly, radiant and well mannered. Although cancer has its downside, the us side is that I have met such a wonderful lady to care for my needs as a patient and to assist me on my journey through remission. What an asset she must be to the breast care team who are wonderful, kind and assistive. There is no down side to Sascha other than perhaps she doesn't realise how valuable a surgeon and person she is to have in ones presence. Tina. xxxxx
